Vale of Llangollen Golf Club

Description

Quiet flows the River Dee past five of Llangollens holes, imposing a threatening presence on three of them but it¦rsquo;s well worth the watery inconvenience for the pleasure of being in such a beautiful vale. Approaching Llangollen on the northbound A5, the clubhouse is just off the road and from it the course slopes down to the lush floor of the valley. Llangollen, of course, is famous for its International Musical Eisteddfod in July which is as good a time as any to visit the course. They come from all over the world to sing and dance not to play golf and dice with the Dee. It is at the 425 yards ninth, aptly called the River Hole, that the Dee plays its most menacing role running down the right -hand side of the fairway. With a sharp dog-leg left you have to hit a long and accurate drive perilously close to the riverbank to have any chance of reaching with your second. The Vale of Llangollen has long said it is the best golf hole in North Wales. A top amateur from the south suggested there was none better anywhere in Wales. In addition to the golf, there are parts of the vale that can only be seen from the course.
